Sourav Ganguly's full name is Sourav Chandidas Ganguly. He was born on 8 July 1972 in an elite Bengali family in Kolkata. On 20 June 1996, Sourav Ganguly began his Test career at the ground of the historic Lords of England and that too historically. Sourav played a brilliant innings of 131 runs in this match. Not only this, by playing a century in the next match too, he proved his mettle and gave a befitting reply to the critics. In this tour, he also set a world record. He became the third batsman in the world to score two centuries in his first two Tests. It was natural that after this tour, Sourav's place in the Indian team was confirmed.
